Bahrain is an archipelago of 37 islands, the largest of which is Bahrain Island, lying in the Persian Gulf. Bahrain is mostly desert with no permanent rivers or streams existing on any of the islands. There is a small region of fertile land supporting date, almond, fig, and pomegranate trees.
The country has an arid climate of hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures can reach 48°C with winter temperatures between 10 and 20°C.
Bahrain is rich in oil and natural gas.
